Does Your Park City Home Need Heat Cable?

While we are out inspecting roofs and giving estimates to Park City homeowners, people often ask us if they need cable on their roof. There are a few problems that makes it necessary to have heat cable installed on your roof, let’s take a look.

Gutters

In places where it doesn’t snow, not having heat cable in your gutters is the norm, but in Park City we always recommend that homeowners have heat cable installed in their gutters. Gutters without heat cable build up with ice that can clog the gutters and prevent them from doing their intended job. As the ice continues to build in the gutter it can build up enough weight to tear down sections of gutter.

At the minimum we always recommend that homeowners have heat cable installed in their gutter and downspouts.

Ice Dams

If your home experiences ice dams building up on your roof, you need heat cable. Heat cable is the best solution for most homeowners who aren’t ready to replace their roof.

You can have heat cable placed to target any problem areas where ice dams develop and prevent ice dams from forming during the winter.

Icicles

A lot of houses around Park City, Heber, and Midway have icicles that form on the edges of their roof. If your home has icicles building up, you need gutters and heat cable inside of your gutters installed. Icicles form because snow melts on your roof and the resulting water isn’t being directed off of the roof and the water freezes when the temperature drops at night. As more and more snow melts and then freezes, the bigger the icicles become.

Gutters and with heat cable inside is the best solution for getting rid of icicles.
