3 Common Park City Roofing Mistakes
Every year we repair and replace hundreds of roofs in Park City and the surrounding area. Over the past 20+ years, we have noticed a few common mistakes homeowners make with their roofs. Let’s take a look at 3 common roofing mistakes homeowners make.
Waiting to Replace a Roof
A common mistake we see Park City homeowners make is waiting to replace a roof when it’s at the end of its life. Often homeowners will call for roof repairs or for a roof assessment and will get told that their roof is at the end of its life and only has a couple of years left at best.
At this stage of a roof’s life, we always recommend getting the roof replaced as soon as possible. The reason being that a heavy snow year in Park City will often cause a roof that’s near the end of its life to fail and leak; leading to damage inside your home.
Because a heavy snow year is impossible to predict, we recommend homeowners be proactive about roof replacements.
Installing Cheap Heat Cable
Another mistake that we see homeowners make is installing cheap/department store heat cable. While the price of heat cable sold at Home Depot and Lowe’s can be alluring, it isn’t designed for the conditions in Park City. We often see this cable fail within one or two years.
Having a high-quality, commercial-grade heat cable installed is the better option for Park City homeowners.
Not Installing Gutter With Heat Cable
A gutter system is great for preventing icicles & protecting your soffit and siding. Gutter systems in Park City though should always be installed with heat cable. Not installing heat cable in your gutters is a mistake that you will want to avoid.
If there is no heat cable in your gutters, snowmelt will likely freeze in your gutter and clog them. To keep your gutters functioning properly during the winter, you will want heat cable inside of them.
